Over the past few months, the ASU, your delegates and other unions have been attending meetings with Council.
These meetings were to discuss a 12-month rollover of your current enterprise agreement and a pay increase as all parties believed this was the best way forward due to the ever-changing environment with the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The ASU was pushing for a 2% pay increase due on the first pay period in July 2020 and inclusion of a casual conversion clause as part of the rollover as Yarra has one of the highest numbers of casual employees employed across all of local government Victoria.
We can now confirm that we have been able to reach an agreement with Council of a 12-month rollover and a pay increase of $25 or 1.25% whichever is greater paid on the first pay period in September 2020.
What this means for our members is that everyone from a Band 7a down will receive a pay increase greater than 1.25% and everyone from a Band 4a down will receive a pay increase greater than 2%. Please see the attached break down summary.
Although we were unsuccessful in getting the casual conversion clause as part of the rollover Council committed to continuing working with the ASU to resolve this matter in good faith.
The believed this was a good win for our members, however, the win did not come easy. It was won because of the dedication of your delegates sticking together and working tirelessly to achieve it.
Now that we have reached in-principle agreement Council are now preparing the voting access period which you will hear more about soon and when you are asked to vote we are recommending employees Vote Yes.
The ASU will be holding the following management approved paid union meetings to afford members to provide further detail of the above and will allow an opportunity for members to ask any questions:
DATE: Tuesday 30 June
VENUE: Clifton Hill Depot
DATE: Wednesday 1 July
MS TEAMS LINK: Join Microsoft Teams Meeting
Keep a lookout for the next EBA update which will outline the voting process.
In the meantime its never a better time to encourage your workmates to join the ASU via www.asu.asn.au/asujoin so we can have a stronger voice for workers at Yarra City Council.
