Australian Services Union knows that members are working hard every day to deliver services to the community. Whether you are working from home or out on site with physical distance and PPE it’s a tough time for workers on the frontline of local government.

If work, in particular working under all the extra rules during lockdown, is making you sick i.e. stressed, depressed, anxious, exhausted then you may have a claim under Workers Compensation.

Our lawyers Maurice Blackburn have written advice on a new entitlement under that law. You can download the advice here.

The new law is called Provisional Payment. If you are worried that the systems at work are harming your mental health then you will be insured for medical expenses while the claim is being assessed. If the claim is approved then you will get weekly payments and be reimbursed for whatever leave you used while sick.

We hope that work isn’t making you unwell but if it is then see your doctor, ask them if their diagnosis is that work is the cause and then if it is fill in a claim form. Even if at the end of the day your claim isn’t approved you don’t have to pay back the medical expenses.

Our union is part of Victorian Trades Hall so we can refer you to Union Assist to appeal any decision on your claim. If you need to go to Court then we can refer you to Maurice Blackburn Lawyers.
