As you are aware the ASU sought Fair Work Commission assistance with getting Ventia to commit to renegotiating your Enterprise Agreement (EA). This is done through a majority support order, which entails obtaining the confirmation that the majority of employees indicating that they want their employer to renegotiate the EA.
We obtained this through a petition and submitted the relevant application. We had a hearing date set for Wednesday 4 August at 10am. On Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning Ventia reached out to the ASU to confirm that they will confirm their position to renegotiate the EA. We still proceeded with the hearing however to confirm this and set up our first meeting.
This is a WIN for ASU membership! It is a shame that we had to go to such lengths for Ventia to agree to renegotiate the agreement.
We have our first EA meeting scheduled for Monday 9 August, which your ASU Delegates and ASU Organiser will be in attendance for and of course report back to the membership on.
We would like to thank the ASU delegates who were instrumental in getting the signatures, talking to their co-workers about the importance of this process and attended the hearing.
This sends a message to Ventia that ASU members are engaged and are prepared to act when needed.
Now, let’s hope the negotiations are a smoother process hereon in.
Remember this wouldn’t have been possible if we didn’t intervene and hold Ventia to account. Together we are stronger. Ask a co-worker to join the ASU at www.asu.asn.au/asujoin
