As members will be aware, your ASU bargaining team has been hard at work to negotiate a fair deal for members.
It has been some time between newsletters however we haven’t had much to report until this week.
To date, we have been presenting each of the log of claims items and explaining why it’s important these issues are addressed and conditions improved in the EA.
At this weeks meeting, Council has put forward a wage offer;
- 1.5%, or $20.50pw whichever the greater payable
- 0.5% Superannuation- this is in line with the legislated increase which must be paid
If we seek amendments to conditions of employment that have a cost associated with them, then management has said it will need to be funded out of the pay increase.
Council further indicated that if we do not reach agreement by April 29 2022 then there will be no back pay for the first increase.
The ASU expressed our deep dissatisfaction with this offer. The wages offer is lower than what members were seeking AND the only prospect of improvement to conditions is if we reduce it further.
Let’s not forget that the last negotiation was a rollover agreement therefore members haven’t seen a shift in conditions for a considerable period.
Council has committed to responding to our log items. The ASU agreed to provide a priority list of claims. This does not mean we are dropping any of our claims but seeking an understanding of those that members feel most strongly about. We will be sending out a survey shortly to obtain your feedback.
We are only as strong as our membership, ask a colleague to join the ASU today via www.asu.asn.au/asujoin
