Moreland Delegate Meetings
ASU organiser Lorraine Di Pietrantonio is currently in discussions with Human Resources to establish monthly delegate meetings at Moreland Council. These meetings are for delegates across the organisation to be able to come together to discuss workplace issues. Opening up the lines of communication between different workgroups and the ASU office is vital to ensure we are more proactive in our approach to dealing with workplace issues.
We identify areas of council which are currently unrepresented by a delegate and work to elect members to those positions. I am currently running introductory meetings across the Council to introduce myself and seek member feedback and input into processes moving forward.
If you are interested in having a union meeting within your workgroup please contact ASU organiser Lorraine Di Pietrantonio on 0400-986-745 or via email on email@example.com
Last week ASU delegates Ellen and Maria organised several meetings with Library staff and ASU organiser Lorraine Di Pietrantonio. These meetings gave members an opportunity to raise concerns within their workgroup. The concerns were consistent across branches; the main issues discussed were;
Backfilling of vacancies; The lack of backfill of positions- both vacancies and leave cover has resulted in increase workload and stress for library staff.
Closing Procedure and overtime: As the branch is required to remain open up until the closing time members are regularly working anywhere of up to 15 minutes post shift finish time in order to complete the required tasks, all of which is unpaid.
Other matters raised included;
- Applying for Annual leave,
- Process of allocating leave over peak periods and TIL-accruing and taking.;
We will campaign around the closing procedures at Moreland CC- we will provide you updates on how we are progressing!
Roads-Inspection Officer Asset Protection PD Issue
Members within the roads team have been in a long standing dispute regarding their position description. Over time they have seen an inclusion of additional duties which historically didn’t fall within their PD’s, specifically the inspection of new infrastructure. Members have been trying to resolve this matter for a prolonged period of time to no avail. A request for a meeting with management and HR within a fortnight has been made for an update on the progress made following several recent meetings between members and management.
Home and Community Care
The ASU is still yet to receive confirmation from Moreland Council regarding their intentions to continue to deliver Home and Community Care services to the elderly despite writing to them in late September. This unfortunately causes a great deal of uncertainty for staff. Most metropolitan Melbourne councils have committed to continuing services till June, 2020; unfortunately Moreland has not yet confirmed that they are committed. We are now reviewing our next steps in this campaign.
Although the EBA negotiations have concluded, the work still continues.
We need to ensure that all areas of the business are represented and have voice. In order for that to occur we must elect delegates. If your workgroup is unrepresented and you would like to hold an ASU meeting please contact ASU organiser Lorraine Di Pietrantonio on 0400-986-745 or via email on firstname.lastname@example.org
We are only as strong as our membership; we must band together have strong union membership and representation from all aspects of the council.
United we stand, Divided we fall.
