Members of the Australian Services Union fill critical roles in the delivery of essential services across our state.
The ASU’s focus in these industries, as with all others, has been to prioritise the work health and safety of members and minimising disruption to ongoing employment.
The union values every single job performed by members and we are working to keep ongoing employment wherever we can.
The ASU is calling on the state government to do the right thing by its staff and not stand down staff during these uncertain times.
The state government have a responsibility to act as a model employer and do everything it can to maintain all jobs within the public sector.
It’s also vital that the state government sends a clear message to the managing directors and boards of statutory authorities that there will be zero tolerance for standing down staff without pay.
In the water industry, Parks Vic, CFA and VicRoads we have written to all employers about the need for work health and safety to be a primary focus, personal protective equipment and risk assessments at worksites.
In the energy sector we have been directly engaging with employers about workplace issues that are affecting members.
These include work health and safety issues and managing the impacts of COVID-19.
The union has also been campaigning hard in opposition to the dodgy enterprise agreement Zinfra has put out to a vote of workers. It’s an agreement designed to divide the workforce that will cut conditions and provide for a substandard pay increase.
