After many weeks of campaigning by ASU representatives, VicRoads have finally received the all-clear from Government to ensure that participants in drive tests must be vaccinated or pass a COVID test.

From Monday 20 December 2021, customers who book a VicRoads light vehicle drive test appointment must be:

  • fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or
  • provide evidence from a PCR COVID-19 testing site of a negative test taken within 72 hours of the drive test appointment.

These new requirements also apply to Driving Instructors and Interpreters participating in the drive test.

Back in October, the State government inexplicably decided that driving instructors were exempt from the vaccine mandate that applies to all other authorised workers in Victoria. ASU members were dumbfounded, and no one could explain why LTOs had to be vaccinated, but driving instructors did not.

The ASU lobbied the Government to overturn this ruling, and we are pleased that common sense has prevailed.

We acknowledge that VicRoads Management has supported our position, and assisted in getting this outcome

And huge thanks to our amazing ASU delegates at VicRoads. They have worked tirelessly throughout COVID to represent members. A lot of their work goes on behind the scenes, and members may not be aware of all the lobbying they do. But rest assured, they are in there fighting for you every day.

Talk to a colleague about the importance of union membership and ask them to join the ASU today via
