VicRoads management has again sought to gain ASU agreement on a one year ‘rollover’ of EA8 with a 2.5% pay increase.

We surveyed our members earlier in the year, and your overwhelming feedback was that you wanted the security of a 4 year agreement, rather than a quick and dirty deal that could leave you vulnerable after it expires.

We have written to Treasurer Pallas twice in the last few weeks, seeking an assurance that the government will cancel any proposal to outsource or privatise any or all of VicRoads. In what is probably the most stressful and uncertain time of any of our lives, the least the government could do would be to assure you some job security.

Instead the Victorian Government is continuing with the scoping study.

Management will no doubt try to play staff off against the union, but what they won’t tell you is that only the ASU is in there fighting for your future job security. And as you have already told us – you won’t sell this off for a meagre, one off pay rise.

Now more than ever we need to stand together against attempts to get members to compromise.

And the reasons are even more compelling than when we started bargaining and you told your union to put security first.
