Bargaining set to commence
The ASU were advised yesterday that the State Government has finally given DoT/VicRoads approval to commence negotiations around EA9 for R&L. We understand that the delay was largely caused by VicRoads Management dragging their heels through the approval process.

The next step is that Management need to issue a ‘Notice of Employee Representation Rights’. This is a requirement under the Fair Work Act. There is no need for ASU members to nominate anyone – we will automatically be at the bargaining table and representing your views.

And speaking of representing your views – this is the final call for ideas for our Log of Claims. If you have any thoughts on changes or improvements you’d like to see in the new Agreement, please email them to as soon as possible.

Possible outsourcing – KPMG review
ASU representatives have been lobbying members of the Government around the recent announcement by the Treasurer that he is looking at options for the future of R&L, including “increased engagement with the private sector”. As previously mentioned, we believe that this would be a disastrous result for VicRoads staff. The ASU are currently lobbying widely on this issue, meeting with various Members of the Andrews Government, and seeking their support on this.

We have also made a number of requests including paid time members meetings and participation in the KPMG review, and discussions are ongoing around these matters.

Next steps
A number of members have requested meetings at their sites – we are endeavouring to set these up as soon as possible, and will have more information on this shortly. We need to finalise the commitment around paid time meetings first, then we can start scheduling the meetings. If you’d like to request a meeting for your site on either of these issues please contact Matt Price.

Want to get the best outcomes?

  • Strength in unity! The more members we have, the stronger we are, so talk to a colleague about joining the union today via
  • Encourage other members to come to the meeting with you
  • Pass this on to a non-member and ask them to join the ASU
