A big thanks to everyone who came along to one of the Library Member Meetings this week, if you’re interested in hearing about what your union is up to more often, the best way is by keeping in touch with your local delegate.

Stand downs and Reduced Hours
Not every Council is behaving responsibly during Stage 4 restrictions, you can stand with other ASU members who have had their pay cut by signing this petition:https://www.megaphone.org.au/petitions/support-council-workers-being-stood-down-with-no-pay-2
Six metropolitan Local Councils have stood down workers without pay or cut staff wages. Local Councils have a responsibility to support their workers through this pandemic because cutting the wages of local Council workers hurts the whole community. Management have reduced wages for library workers at Frankston and Port Phillip, at Stonnington, thirty library staff have been stood down without pay despite there being plenty of meaningful work that can be done remotely.
What can other Library staff do to help?
Sign the petition and share it with your friends and family.

Library members and Climate Change
A member at one of our meetings raised the question of how library work could fit into an Australian Green New Deal. ASU officials recently attended a Cities Power Partnership forum on how Local Government areas can become self-sustaining with renewable energy projects. You can read more about this project here: https://citiespowerpartnership.org.au/
