Celebrate 2019 and Equal Pay Payment!
Come along to mark another big year with other unionists from across the industry!
2019 has seen some ups and downs. We’ve had an appalling Federal Government re-elected in May, who are doing their best to undermine workers’ rights and the role of unions. Portable Long Service Leave was introduced to the community sector in July. We’ve worked with a stack of new members joining the ASU community. And ASU officials have worked alongside numerous inspiring delegates to make our sector a better place to work.
This year our end of year celebration falls the day after the 8th instalment of 9 Equal Pay payments.

Urgent Equal Pay Funding Briefing
Members met for the inaugural SACS campaign committee meeting on 13 November and discussed concerns around secure work and other campaign priorities. Members were keen to hold a second campaign meeting before 2019 is out, as a call to action to save Equal Pay and sector funding.
The Federal Government is offering contracts that do not include an Equal Pay component, however employers will be legally bound to pay the rates. This is the Federal Government’s way of cutting funding by stealth, with potential losses of 30-40% of federal funding. Equal Pay is here to stay! And not at the cost of secure jobs or quality services. Come along to get informed and involved in the plan for the year ahead.
