Recently, the ASU raised a dispute with TasWater concerning the removal of substitute RDOs on Public Holidays.
Members contacted the ASU advising they had been impacted by completely losing their RDO when it fell on a public holiday.
Management was asserting that any employee working full-time from home, with an RDO pattern of work, was not entitled to a substitute RDO if it fell on a public holiday. They claimed your RDO was a “non-rostered day off” – a term that is not defined in your Enterprise Agreement.
This was in clear breach of the Enterprise Agreement which allows different work patterns for full-time employees and provides a substitute day if your RDO falls on a public holiday, regardless of whether your work location is the office or home.
Following several meetings, TasWater ended up agreeing with the ASU’s interpretation.
Management has agreed to honour the substitute RDO for public holidays, and additionally reimburse the impacted employees who previously lost their substitute RDO. TasWater also confirmed that the People Leaders would be advised of this outcome and that HR Business Partners will circulate it to Department Managers.
If you lost your substitute RDO, please contact HR to ensure that you are reimbursed for these RDOs, either by being paid or provided additional days. If you encounter any issues please contact the ASU.
