ASU Representatives attended another workshop meeting this week, regarding the proposed changes to rosters and roles at YSAS Resi Units.

There was a significant change in tone from process improvement to saving money where possible. The main feature of this cost-saving effort is that management now says ‘The only way we see that we can provide supervision and space to do therapeutic work, is to have sleepover shifts at Geelong and Glen Iris’. This means that one staff member would do a stand-up, while the other sleeps on-site after their arvo shift. Currently, the sleepover rate is a flat $55, which YSAS agree needs to increase, though a suggestion of $150 has already been rejected.

Many issues with the sleepover plan have been raised by ASU members, but all have been overruled by management.

Their consultation timeline has changed again, with the implementation of the new roster now looking at being around August 7, after you receive at least 14 days’ notice as required by your enterprise agreement. This is because they know they must start a new consultation process on the sleepover model if they wish to proceed with it.

We want to meet with you, about what happens next. There’ll be two online meetings next week and we’d love to see you at one (just pick whichever suits you best).
