Recently, we supported members at a Tasmanian local government landfill site whose employer had plans to classify them as shift workers despite performing the same work at the same site for over 10 years and attracting overtime rates on any weekends worked.

The proposed change would have cost these workers more than $150 per pay, and it was to be applied just before Christmas!

The ASU was successful in stopping this from happening during the course of the current EBA.

We have fought off this change for now but it is important membership holds and grows.

While this employer may have shown their hand, they may still try to bring in these changes during upcoming enterprise agreement negotiations.

When changes happen in the workplace, it pays to be union.
