As you may know four councils in Gippsland, Wellington, Bass Coast, East Gippsland & South Gippsland are investigating a shared services model for many of the activities that they currently do individually.
The ASU have written to each council demanding that they provide members with information about where their discussions about this model are up to. We are starting to get some responses, albeit with very little detail and will keep members informed. If the ASU believe that the responses we have been provided with are not sufficient we have informed all four councils that we will be taking them to the Fair Work Commission for failure to consult properly.
The ASU oppose the establishment of shared services models such as the one that is currently under investigation. We oppose it because it, destroys local jobs, makes it harder for other functions within a council to function and reduces pay and conditions for those staff who remain.
The ASU will continue to fight for local jobs
