Council-employed Community Care workers in the Gannawarra Shire do essential work for the well-being of your community – but their jobs are under threat as the council moves towards recommending outsourcing services to private companies.

They need your support to protect their jobs and maintain the quality of care your community deserves.

We have created a petition that will be delivered to councillors urging them to keep community care services in-house and protect local jobs and we need you to sign it.

You can sign the petition here

Outsourcing vital services such as community care is a backwards step. In recent examples in Victoria, where councils have absolved themselves of responsibility of this important service, we have seen a lower quality of care for the most vulnerable people in the community. This has meant in some cases those vulnerable people going without support for weeks on end.

Workers employed in private companies are often forced to accept lower wages, reduced conditions and less job security

We are asking all ASU members to support the Community Care workers and to fight against a potential reduction in the quality of services for the most vulnerable community members and decreased accountability by your council.

Sign the petition here and share amongst your co-workers, friends, family and networks.

We are stronger when we stand together, and we must support each other when our jobs are under threat!

Chat to a workmate who is not yet a member of our union about the importance of joining the ASU to continue fighting for your job security. It’s easy for anyone to join online at www.asu.asn.au/asujoin
