Covid can have a major impact on workers’ health and safety. The best protection is having a plan.
Our union advice for best practice health and safety at work comes from the law OHS Act (Vic) 2004:
- Your boss must have a safe system of work (s21)
- Safer systems come from identifying hazards and reducing risk.
- Consultation is crucial. Workers and Reps (HSRs) have the legal right to speak up (s35)
- Reps have the right to go to OHS Committee on work time (s72)

The recent lockdown was an OHS issue. We wrote to management to check what was in place to keep you safe. Your Shire took some reasonable steps to protect you, including redeployment for those staff affected.
