Safe Steps family violence response centre is the State-wide family violence crisis service and main point of call for women and children in Victoria who are in crisis and experiencing family violence. Members may be aware that DHHS commissioned a review of safe steps following ASU concerns being raised about alarming industrial and practice issues with the agency directly, relevant State Government MPs and Family Safety Victoria.
The Review outcomes are now being acted on by the Safe Step’s Board and DHHS. The ASU is pleased to share that the concerns raised by ASU members have been heard and that in early October senior leadership, including CEO, Annette Gillespie, have been removed. See Guardian Article.
The ASU is keeping a watchful eye on what happens next. The Board and new leadership have an opportunity to fix the issues and to ensure that women and children are supported by a workforce that is respected, resourced and supported to do this important work.
