The Victorian Government’s rate capping policy squeezes every Council in Victoria. It impacts the services councils deliver and the job security of the dedicated local government workers who provide them.

Squeezing councils also affects employment in communities across Victoria. It reduces direct employment at councils and also employment from the additional goods and services needed by councils. We also miss out on additional workers spending in local businesses, and this costs jobs too.

The ASU has commissioned an economic analysis of the impact on jobs of rate capping, so we have the hard evidence to help our campaigning and lobbying against the current rate capping policy.

We’ll be receiving the report in the next few weeks and will be sharing it with workers, councillors, CEOs and with Victorian politicians.

Information from every council on the impacts of rate capping is also essential.

Please let us know what’s happing at your council by completing this very short survey.
