A members meeting was held today to allow everyone to meet the new ASU Organiser at Queen Victoria Market, Zoe Edwards, and discuss the enterprise agreement.
Members discussed that we want to recommence enterprise agreement negotiations after the Lockdown period concludes. It’s been nearly two years since the agreement expired and QVM employees endured a very difficult 2020.
City of Melbourne
The ASU is also reinitiating enterprise agreement negotiations at City of Melbourne. These negotiations are relevant for QVM because management has argued that they want to be guided by the outcome at City of Melbourne.
ASU members at City of Melbourne had a member’s meeting two weeks ago where they voted to call the City of Melbourne back to the negotiating table and put a fair wage offer with back pay. They endorsed taking protected industrial action if a fair wage offer is not put to staff.
On members instructions, the ASU took the City of Melbourne to the Fair Work Commission in pursuit of that objective earlier this week. The City of Melbourne has now agreed to meet on Tuesday 15 June and put a wage offer to employees.
The ASU is optimistic about receiving a fair offer on June 15, as the City of Melbourne has recently announced a big-spending budget that provides for a significant increase in funding for employee costs. However, if that offer does not meet ASU members’ expectations, we will proceed with industrial action.
The meeting today discussed meeting again in two weeks to get an update on where City of Melbourne is up to. That meeting will be held at 2pm on Friday 18 June. Please keep an eye out for the calendar invite with more details.
