The ASU is consulting with Qantas around the proposed reduction of three Team Leaders in Hobart. We argued strongly for maintaining TL numbers and we now have Qantas’ final position.

Qantas has made some considerable concessions to their proposal following our strong advocacy.

They have agreed to maintain a part-time (0.6 FTE) TL role for the Team Coach team, resulting in one less redundancy. They have increased coverage on the weekend from two TLs covering the whole day to three, ensuring coverage for the TL lunch breaks, and have removed several functions which were expected to transfer to Hobart as they didn’t fit with the job descriptions.

Additionally, we have been advised that many optimisations to the Team Leader role have been completed over the past three to four months. They say that these include no longer:

  • having a designated TL for the operational phone,
  • needing to schedule outbound work,
  • needing to allocate specific outbound work,
  • needing to conduct audits,
  • being responsible for schedule and leave support for CCCs,
  • being involved in Payroll queries; and
  • needing to report on team operational performance.

If these enhancements and optimisations don’t seem to have been implemented please let us know so that we can address it urgently.

They also say that further enhancements and optimisations are in the works including TLs no longer managing the SHR mailboxes, compliance course planning and scheduling, and real-time management of outbound work.

Expressions of Interest for redundancy are expected to be sent to all affected staff shortly for a three week consideration period. We encourage TLs to think carefully before making any selections and to remember that these are non-binding nominations, subject to change.
