We write to update you on progressions of the Burnie City Council agreement negotiations. We have received proposed from BCC. Reviewing has proven to be an onerous task given there has been several variations to the wording in various clauses that were never raised at the negotiating table. Wording changes discovered to date would have a detrimental effect on workers’ rights and/or conditions so it is essential that time is invested to ensure that nothing is missed.
While the BCC has slightly increased wage offers during the negotiation period, they still fall well short of some of the other ASU negotiated agreements recently. For your information, here are a few examples of wages negotiated by the ASU and paid to other Tasmanian councils this year:
- Central Highlands Council 6.9% (Hobart CPI)
- Central Coast (CPI)
- Kentish/Latrobe (CPI)
- Launceston (CPI)
After the majority of the membership endorsed applying to reserve your right to take protected action, BCC have tried to accelerate the finalisation of the agreement.
All paperwork has been lodged and you can expect to receive your AEC voting forms in the mail over in coming weeks. During this period, the ASU will provide you with the information on how to vote.
It’s commendable how staff have stuck together throughout this process, now let’s finish it off and lock in a fair deal for workers.
