The current enterprise agreement at YSAS Youth Support and Advocacy Service still has months to run but ASU delegates are already preparing for negotiations with their employer.
This is the first time ASU delegates Dave and Kylie have had a role in negotiating an enterprise agreement. And they are receiving strong support from their ASU Organiser.
Supporting delegates in negotiating with their employer is just one of the ways the ASU protects, promotes and improves the working conditions of members
They recently met with ASU Organiser Karrie Bowe to review their current agreement and discuss the proposed Log of Claim items put forward by ASU members at YSAS.
Dave said that he found the whole process confusing at first but felt “very good about doing it”.
Both Kylie and Dave indicated that they have learned a lot by being part of the process. Kylie said she had learnt a lot about the organisation and employee rights and feels better informed about other aspects of workplace relations.
According to Dave he is proud that he can give fellow members feedback about the process and the enterprise agreement which they seem pleased about”.
Both Kylie and Dave agreed that they feel they have been “given a voice” through their involvement in negotiation preparation.
Kylie also found that she has been “alerted to rights she didn’t know they had.”
The ASU provides members with workplace information, services and individual support.
And experienced ASU organisers work with delegates every day to get a better deal for members.
