As many SACS workers know Portable Long Service Leave has been a long time coming! Planning is continuing to get implementation-right for the 1 July kick off of the scheme.
The ASU represents members on the Portable Long Service Leave Implementation Working Group, which has been meeting monthly with other unions, employers, employer reps and parts of government.
The PLSL Authority is well underway to being established, with appointments currently being made to the Board and senior positions. Employers will need to start making payments to the Authority by September.
The ASU understands your employer will register you in the Scheme. Government is currently conducting workshops with employers to ensure workable systems are established and obligations under the Scheme are clear. Further info will be available for workers covered by the Scheme in the near future.
There are still a number of areas to be clarified and the ASU has been providing regular feedback to Industrial Relations Victoria and the DHHS to advocate for clear guidelines and timely drafting of the Regulations that will accompany the Act. The ASU is working with other unions and advocating to government to reverse the carve out of the NDIS workforce from the PLSL Scheme. The ASU will continue to push for this grossly unfair issue to be resolved.
