Last week the ASU and delegates met with Council to discuss concerns for library staff who are still working at reduced hours and urged Council to reemployed all staff at their full hours.

Delegates provided Council with a list of duties including a backlog of work that would increase staffing capacity. Council reviewed this and agreed to increase an additional 2FTE. Please thank your delegates for this win!

However, CoPP is the only Council who have not reverted its library staff back to their full hours. This is appalling and a clear demonstration that CoPP do not value its library staff! The ASU understand that some branches have had to close this week due to staff shortages and that next week’s roster will still only reflect around about 98% of staff’s normal hours.

Given the gap is so small, around 1.5FTE,  the ASU has urged Council to revert staff to their full hours or wear the gap themselves and stop penny-pinching from its library staff and start valuing them!

The ASU requested to meet with Council numerous times this week, and Council will not make themselves available until Tuesday next week. Once the ASU have met with Council, we will have a clearer picture on their position and what the next steps will be including the possibility of taking the matter to the FairWork Commission.
