ASU delegates and officials met on the 9th September for the Staff Consultative Committee to discuss the issues below.

Reopening Libraries

The State Government released its Roadmap to Recovery which included an update to the Industry Restrictions plan. This plan provided significant clarification on the role that libraries will play in the recovery and confirmed that from Monday the 14th of September, libraries can operate book delivery and contactless collection services. This work should enable those staff who are working at reduced hours to be reemployed at their full hours. The ASU has written to Council to ask their intentions as of Monday and requested consultation on their plan. Once more information has come to us, we will communicate with library members.

Win for Fixed Term Contract Employees!
The ASU has been pressuring Council to provide data on the use of fixed-term contracts, including details about the reason for the engagement. Several employees have been inappropriately employed on fixed-term contracts instead of as permanents. As a result of your union’s work, 14 temporaries will be converted to permanent work. There are still many fixed-term contracts, so If you believe you should have been offered permanent work please contact your union.

Wellbeing Program

Council is required as part of the Agreement to develop at Wellbeing Program for staff in consultation with the committee. Council intends on sharing the details of this at the next meeting in October.
