Congratulations to ASU delegates and members at Moonee Valley City Council for their activism in securing an agreement on what looks to be the first paid pandemic leave clause in a local government enterprise agreement.

Like many local government workers, ASU members at Moonee Valley have had to use their leave entitlements or unpaid leave when required to isolate. This includes when they were exposed to COVID-19 in the course of their work.

We are still negotiating final details, but the new clause will see workers at Moonee Valley who have less than 5 days accrued sick leave, able to access a paid pandemic leave pool if they have to isolate. This important protection will apply to COVID-19 and any future pandemic.

The delegates are close to reaching agreement on the outstanding items in the enterprise agreement and will be holding members meetings in the next two weeks to vote on whether to endorse in principle the new enterprise agreement.

Get active with the ASU in your workplace for better outcomes, and to make local government a better place to work!
