Consultation regarding upcoming changes
The ASU has been notified of changes taking place in Community Strengthening which will be discussed in detail with staff and your Union later this week.

The next Community Strengthening local consultative meeting between management and the ASU has now been scheduled for late next week.

This timeline has been developed to allow the ASU to input into the proposed changes once we’ve considered them. So that our response represents your expectations we need to hear from you.

There will be two online meetings held next week to facilitate ASU members providing input to your Delegates and Officials so we can advocate on your behalf. They will be held as follows:

The meetings will now be on:

DATE: Tuesday 9 June
TIME: 4:00pm – 5:00pm
ZOOM LINK: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/4242137728
MEETING ID: 424 213 7728

DATE: Wednesday 10 June
TIME: 2:00pm – 3:00pm
ZOOM LINK: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/4242137728
MEETING ID: 424 213 7728

These are paid meetings that members can be rostered to attend

These meetings will cover the same topics, but we have set up two meetings to ensure as many staff as possible can dial in. These meetings are for ASU members, but please pass this on to other staff in your area and they can join online via https://www.asu.asn.au/asujoin and come along too.

Cleaning of Child Care Centres
The ASU is aware of concerns regarding home care staff being expected to clean child care centres. We have raised these with management and received the following response:

  • Only DCWs who were not meeting their minimum hours have been asked to do this
  • Proposed duties include:
    • Wiping down of children’s tables and chairs, lockers, and benchtops
    • Washing of children’s play equipment, e.g., Duplo, blocks, Lego, train set, puzzles
    • Removing posters pictures from walls and windows
  • Appropriate site inductions will be undertaken for DCW staff working in these locations
  • Staff who do not have a WWCC will not be in contact with kindergarten children when completing the above cleaning tasks
  • Cleaning tasks are allocated appropriately within the DCW’s physical capacity and skillset
  • Each of the centres listed will have educators on-site finishing up tasks for the term, and available to provide a site induction; and
  • DCW’s will not be in direct care with the children who are attending

Cleaning duties are aligned to the type of tasks staff would undertake within their general home care duties, and there is no expectation to do any industrial or specialised cleaning.

If any staff are experiencing circumstances which do not fall within what’s outlined above please contact your local ASU Organiser or Delegate to discuss this further.
