Mornington Peninsula Shire Council EBA negotiations have commenced, on behalf of members the ASU has presented the without-prejudice log of claims that was agreed upon by you. Mornington Penisula Shire Council has also presented their log.

The ASU acknowledges that the Council have proposed some real improvements for staff, there have also been some reductions in conditions proposed which will not be accepted and or endorsed by the ASU.

Some of the proposals include broadening the spread of hours for library staff, performance-based banding increases, reduction in penalty rates by mutual agreement where FWA applies, and reduction in the trial period for redeployment from 12 weeks to 4 weeks.

IT’S NOT ALL BAD NEWS

Council has proposed some improvements within this LOC such as improvements to parental leave provision, 20 days gender affirmation leave, introduction of a standardised allowance across all staff and review of annualised breakdown and break times for waste staff.

The ASU is opposed to Council’s proposal of a 4-year agreement due to the uncertainty surrounding rate capping, CPI and of course interest rate rises. There are also other implications to consider such as the introduction of multi-employer bargaining, which could prove advantageous to Councils with high union density.

We are stronger when we are united. Speak to your colleagues about joining the ASU and invite them along to attend one of these important meetings. It’s easy for anyone to join online at www.asu.asn.au/asujoin
