As you would be aware Council has issued a Request for Tender for a contractor to take your work from 1 December. All new clients will go to the contractor. The tender shows that they expect the contractor to get the following new clients next year:
- 634 domestic assistance clients
- 47 personal care clients
- 5 respite clients
- 69 social support clients
In a recent staff newsletter Council said:
“the proposed change applies to new clients only and based on Council’s analysis of client and staff turnover, we believe that there will be sufficient work to maintain employment for our staff until at least 2022 to provide services to our existing clients”
We believe that Council is misrepresenting the reality. If your teams do not get any new clients from 1 December and existing clients leave the service e.g. by going into care or passing away, how can Council maintain the same staff numbers with the same client hours? They can’t!
We believe that there will inevitably be redundancies or other job losses. We lodged a dispute in the Fair Work Commission (FWC) and following a conference in FWC Council are now willing to meet with us to discuss redundancies.
We will be holding a meeting on Zoom.
