Moreland EBA Update
The ASU has asked the Fair Work Commission about the status of approval of the Moreland EBA . The Commission cannot provide timeframes on how long the approval process will take.
As soon as we have been informed of certification we will inform members.
The delay is unfortunate and beyond the control of your union. Back pay to employees will be payable from 1 July 2018 at 2.25% or $28 per week whichever is greater.
Moreland Delegate Meetings
After many representations to your employer, Moreland have agreed to paid union delegate meetings.. These meetings will occur on a bimonthly bases, one week prior to the consultative meeting.
ASU members will be better served by union delegates who are given time to be better informed about workplace issues. Delegates can also take a more proactive role in addressing matters through your staff consultative forum with better lead time.
If you are interested in becoming more involved with the ASU or your workgroup is currently unrepresented make contact with one of your current Moreland ASU delegates or ASU Organiser Lorraine Di Pietrantonio.
A meeting has been set up between Grant Thorne, ASU Organiser Lorraine Di Pietrantonio and ASU Delegate Doug Cutter for Wednesday 13 February. This meeting was organised to obtain information regarding the review that Moreland City Council had undertaken.
A member’s meeting will be organised next week to provide members with an update, so stay tuned!
ASU Delegates have raised several concerns regarding the following areas which we have since raised with the employer;
- The use of fixed term contracts;
- The requirement of staff to contact regarding a 24 hour cancellation and potentially a loss of the cancelation if staff ‘delay confirmation’;
- The employer is now relying on text messages to advise of a new shift- even within a limited time frame;
- Staff being rostered for 30 minutes to 1hour shifts per day.
- Concerns regarding shifts being rostered which do not take into account travel time from the conclusion of one shift to the commencement of the next
If you have experienced any of the above issues please notify your ASU delegates Lois and Rosalba or ASU organiser Lorraine Di Pietrantonio. The more examples we have of these incidents the better we are able to advocate to improve your working conditions.
Once we have further information regarding these we will be organising a meeting with Home Care members.
