The ASU wrote to Moreland CC in September 2018 to seek confirmation of council’s position regarding their intention to continue to provide Home Care Services post 2019. The council response did not provide any clarity regarding their position as they stated that ‘council had made no binding decision on long term scenarios for aged care service delivery’.

ASU Secretary Lisa Darmanin and ASU Lead Organiser Tash Wark asked several questions at the December council meeting.  They asked why council had not yet committed to providing services to 2020 despite the Commonwealth extension of funding to this time and what consultation with staff and community members will occur. There was a great level of support from home care delegates and workers and delegates and members from across other areas of council.

The employer has since advised their intention to remain service providers following the confirmation of the extension of funding arrangements for the CHSP funding until 30 June 2020.

This is a great outcome that provides security of employment to the approximately 130 workers.  ASU Delegate Rosalba and Lois said “This is welcomed news, we are pleased that we can continue to provide a service to the community and some security of employment till 2020”

The ASU protects, promotes and improves the working conditions and entitlements of our members.
