Improving conditions, clause by clause
Over the past weeks, the ASU Negotiating Team has been working diligently through the agreement clause by clause, to fight for improvements.

These negotiations have been productive, as we seek to secure agreement to improve conditions and ensure that any management changes don’t disadvantage employees. For example, we’ve secured agreement to expand the definition of family so that you can take bereavement leave for a wider range of family members.

We’ve met three times over the last two weeks and have another meeting scheduled next week. This work takes time but it’s important to get right. We will provide a more comprehensive update at the end of this process about the status of each claim.

Taking the fight to Fair Work
In our last update, we foreshadowed that the ASU was taking Council to the Fair Work Commission because they hadn’t provided the requested information about the budget. Management finally handed over the information just before the scheduled hearing in Fair Work, but it has raised more questions, than answers. We’ve submitted a new request for information and await more information. We will keep you updated about this, as this information is critical to establishing how much money is available for wage increases.

Fight for fair pay
As you know, management has indicated the pay offer will be 1.15%. Your ASU Negotiating Team is fighting for a better deal but to do this we need to grow the union. Can you talk to your colleagues today about joining the union? It is only with strength in numbers that we will get a better deal in this enterprise agreement.
