Michele Sinclair is a dedicated ASU delegate who recently stepped up to make sure ASU members at Brimbank Leisure Centre were adequately represented.
Members in leisure services were without a workplace delegate for some time which resulted in management practices that were detrimental to workers – specifically the process of permanent shifts being converted to casual shifts. Michele worked alongside fellow delegate Matthew to make sure council rectified this practice.
Michele stepped up into the role because as she, “couldn’t sit back and not have staff represented during the redevelopment of St Albans Leisure centre.”
Michele has been instrumental in liaising with members from both Sunshine and St Albans to ensure members are kept informed of their rights at work. She has been proactive in questioning council about proposed changes to the department.
Since coming on board as a delegate, we have seen an increase in membership within the leisure services at Brimbank and a more engaged and active workforce.
Well done Michele!
