Australia has experienced the longest period of economic growth in the developed world with 26 years of uninterrupted economic growth. Over the last couple of years, rate capping has hampered our ability to get decent pay increases but there has also been record low wage growth across Australia with pay increases struggling to keep up with cost of living increases.

Over 2 decades of enterprise bargaining have resulted in a huge disparity of wages and conditions in Local Government for ASU members who do the same jobs at different Councils.

At our Conference in October ASU Delegates resolved to fight back and to develop minimum standards for enterprise bargaining. On 13 November we held our first Local Government Metro Delegates Network meeting where we began the process of finalising the standards.
