ASU members at CoM have requested a ballot to take protected industrial action. The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is conducting the ballot over the next three weeks.
The ASU urges all members to vote YES to ALL actions on the ballot!
VOTE YES to all options for protected industrial action and post your ballot back straight away
VOTE YES to protected action because management wants to scrap current entitlements to redeployment or voluntary redundancy
VOTE YES to protected action because the two-tier pay system is unfair to workers
VOTE YES to protected action because CoM employees deserve a fair pay rise
How it will work:
The ballot officially opened on Friday 15 November 2019.
We estimate most people will receive their ballots in the post between 19 and 21 November.
You need to follow the instructions from the AEC on how to complete the ballot paper and post your ballot paper back straight away to make sure that your vote will count!
You’ll notice when you receive your ballot that it contains a comprehensive list of bans. Not everything will apply to you or your work area, but the bans have been carefully selected with all members in mind and we need you to vote YES to ALL of them, so all members can participate. Your delegates will be on hand to remind you of the dates that the ballot is due, and answer any questions.
It is important that you vote and post your ballot back as soon as you receive it to account for postal delays.
The ballot will officially close at 10am on the Friday 6 December, but we recommend you get it back ASAP to make sure your vote counts!
If you have not received your ballot paper, you need to contact the Australian Electoral Commission immediately on email@example.com or 9285 7110.
ASU members and delegates have not taken this action lightly, it comes after months of negotiations with little movement from management at the bargaining table. Your ASU delegates believe that protected action will be the best way to force management to put forward a better offer.
The more active members there are at Melbourne City Council, the stronger you are to secure a better deal. Forward this email to a colleague if you believe they have not yet joined: https://www.asu.asn.au/asujoin
Please circulate this newsletter to all other staff members and put on your notice boards and in your lunch rooms and encourage non-members to join their union.
