ASU Organisers and ASU Delegates have now attended seven EBA negotiation meetings in this second round of bargaining.

During the last two bargaining meetings, we have seen a shift in City Of Melbourne’s previous bargaining position.

We are now having constructive meaningful discussions on a number of the ASU claims.

After 10 months of the ASU saying that Schedule A divides workers and denies fair pay and increment increases CoM has now acknowledged that the Schedule A salary Scales are unfair and have started discussions to fix this two-tier unfair pay system.

CoM has now acknowledged that PPTI (zero-hour contracts) are unfair and is insecure work. ASU delegates are now working with CoM on a new Permanent Part-Time Clause to replace the PPTI clause; this can only lead to a better outcome for all employees’ and give genuine Job security.

OCS: CoM has also moved in this area were they have acknowledged that the loadings for the Local Laws roster needs to change to a higher loading.

The ASU bargaining team have made it quite clear to CoM that our members have no appetite to agree to any changes to the present entitlements in the redeployment and voluntary redundancy clauses.

The latest EA 101: Blog 1 what’s the difference between an EA and CoM policy
CoM polices cannot be disputed but all rights and entitlements in the EA can be disputed.

The ASU has proposed that the FWAs and transition to retirement clauses should be in the EA.

That is why your ASU bargaining team have proposed better terms of reference for the Consultation Committee so that all policies should come through that Consultation Committee to be consulted along with other matters.

Bargaining has now been parked for the festive season and will recommence in late January 2020.

We hope you all have a good break over the festive season and safe travels and a happy agreed EA for 2020.
