On Tuesday this week, you will be given an opportunity to vote on your enterprise agreement.
The ASU does not support this agreement. This is because the agreement entrenches a two-tiered pay structure between Schedule A and AA workers. We fought to get this removed and have secured, via a Memorandum of Understanding, an agreement to introduce a ‘Remuneration Policy’ that will allow some workers on Schedule A to negotiate incremental progression payments. However, the new Remuneration Policy will not fix the fundamental injustice of a two-tiered pay structure.
However, we encourage you to consider the benefits of this agreement and the times, when determining your vote. We have been at the negotiating table for two years, and we are currently in lockdown. The ASU recognises the agreement will provide many benefits to members, including back pay and wage outcomes that are consistent with wage increases across the local government sector.
Just a few months ago, CoM was refusing to pay back pay and were offering wage increases below the rate cap. Through your ASU delegates hard work and strategic negotiation and member activism, we have secured a wage offer that is fair, given the times. We encourage you to take this into account when determining how you vote tomorrow.
