FACTS: Schedule As!
In the last three years CoM has employed approx. 340 staff on Schedule A. Of these approx. 300 (88%) are on low rates, and have not progressed despite spending longer in the job. Only 12% are on rates above the minimum for the band.
Schedule As now make-up about 25% of the CoM workforce. This number will continue to grow.
Regardless of performance, commitment or years of experience Schedule As will never progress beyond the band level they were started on.
Schedule As work alongside Schedule AAs, with identical PDs and responsibilities. Schedule AAs are recognised annually progressing via incremental levels and according pay increases.
This situation is unfair, and is impacting on a growing number of workers as CoM employs new staff.
It undermines fairness in the workplace, creates division and problems with disparity within teams. Staff may work side by side in the same roles and be paid thousands of dollars less, at worst $12, 000 difference a year.
ASU Members are unanimous in asking all staff to VOTE NO!
Stop the disparity and fix the problem – we need to get back to the bargaining table to keep CoM accountable.
If we can get this EA voted down we will come back to members to look at other options to strike a better deal across council.
