ASU Office and Delegates attended CoM staff consultation Committee Wednesday 6 May.

The CEO gave an updated presentation on what further actions that CoM are proposing in regard to the COVID-19 Crisis.

Council is still standing by their commitment that they will not stand-down staff. ELT has been working on a plan to redeploy staff and find alternative duties especially those staff in libraries, and leisure.

So far, in Round 1 of this process, 76 staff have been redeployed into other areas of Council. Round 2 will see a further 41 staff been redeployed into other areas of Council.

No staff members will be stood-down, staff will be paid as normal during this planning process.

The ASU has proposed that libraries can reopen for staff following risk assessments and Safe Operating Procedures. This will enable library staff with no other alternative duties to return to the workplace. This proposal has been welcomed and actioned by the committee.

The CEO updated the committee on projects that will be happening at the City over the next few months which will create more job opportunities.

On-Street Compliance Services members are taking up the secondment positions with DHHS. It is important to remember that your industrial matters are still covered by the ASU during this period of secondment.

An employer may encourage their employees to download or use Covid-19 Safe app, they cannot direct employees to download it either on a personal mobile device or on an employer business mobile device. Contact the ASU member contact centre on 1300 855 570  immediately if you have been disadvantaged at work for failing to download the app.

If you are going through any financial hardship or have little entitlements to cover reduced working arrangements, please contact your manager and discuss these issues with them.

The ASU is also ensuring that your delegates and ASU office are being consulted during this difficult period.

We still have a long way to go over the next few weeks, so speak to your ASU Delegates and encourage non-members to join the ASU which is fighting hard for everyone.

Please circulate this newsletter to all other staff members and put on your notice boards and in your lunchrooms and encourage non-members to join their union.
