In the lead-up to the last state election, the Andrews government committed to the demands of ASU community sector members to implement a community sector jobs code.
Make no mistake, this is due to the pressure that you and your colleagues in the ASU put on the state government to make it happen.
But what is a jobs code?!
Currently, the State Government don’t put any industrial requirements into funding agreements for community sector funding. So even though your work may be funded by the State, they don’t require your employer to provide job security, good working conditions, or real avenues to address workplace issues. A jobs code is a set of employment rules for any employer providing state-funded services to the community.
The code will be introduced prior to 1 July 2023. Now we have to do the work to ensure that the jobs code makes your work more secure, more fair and more equal.
The ASU is holding a meeting at your workplace to talk about what you can do to ensure we secure a meaningful jobs code, and that it’s enforceable.
Please RSVP to attend this meeting and encourage colleagues to come too.
