Over the weekend we received correspondence from our members that Maribyrnong has dismissed a huge number of casual staff members.

Maribyrnong Council has done this without informing or consulting with the ASU.

We are hosting an urgent zoom meeting for all members and any employee who has been impacted by the dismissals.

DATE: Wednesday 8 April
TIME: 12pm
ZOOM LINK: https://zoom.us/j/446261897
MEETING CODE: 446-261-897

If you have never used Zoom before, please click on the link and download the software, or download the app on your phone at least thirty minutes before the meeting. If you have any problems, get in touch with your Campaign Organiser Austin Fabry, at afabry@asuvictas.com.au

The decision to sack the casual workforce flies in the face of Maribyrnong’s efforts to provide support to the community during COVID-19.

Many of the people who have been dismissed are residents themselves and have overnight found themselves out of work when they could be meaningfully redeployed, or been at least maintained as a Maribyrnong employee until the crisis ended.

Please forward this email to anyone who you believe has been impacted by the dismissals.

If you know of anyone who is not yet a member of the ASU, encourage them to join online today at https://www.asu.asn.au/asujoin

Solidarity and stay safe
