We have had a WIN at the Federal Court today for ASU Members!

The Judged dismissed Maribyrnong City Council’s attempt to deny in-home aged care worker’s right to redundancy payment.

This decision will provide certainty to ASU members at Maribyrnong council who’s rights to redundancy were attacked by their employer!

The ASU position from the onset has always been that redundancies are payable and were shocked to see the lengths that Maribyrnong City Council will go to, to deprive members of their entitlements.

Liane Simko HSO Delegate stated “This is wonderful news for our members- we are pleased that the Federal court has determined this in our favour and members’ entitlements to redundancies are maintained. We couldn’t have done this without the assistance and support of the ASU”

The ASU exists only for the benefit of members and this case shows that without being a member of the union, workers would not have the resources or expertise to act alone- we are stronger together.

There will be an ASU meeting held tomorrow 29 May at 3pm in the Function Room.
