By now you should have heard that ASU members have requested a ballot to take protected industrial action, and the Australian Electoral Commission will be conducting the ballot in the next three weeks.
How it will work:
- The ballot officially opens on Monday 23 September
- We estimate most people will receive their ballots in the post between 25th and 26th of September.
- It is important that you vote and post your ballot back as soon as you receive it to account for postal delays.
- The ballot will officially close at 10am on the 14th of October, but we recommend you get it back by Friday the 4th of October.
You’ll notice when you receive your ballot that it contains a comprehensive list of bans. Not everything will apply to you or your work area, but the bans have been carefully selected with all members in mind and we need you to vote yes to all of them, so all members can participate. Your delegates will be on hand to remind you of the dates that the ballot is due, and answer any questions.
ASU members and delegates have not taken this action lightly, it comes after months of negotiations with little movement from management at the bargaining table. Your ASU delegates believe that protected action will be the best way to force management to put forward a better offer.
The more active members there are at Maribyrnong Council, the stronger you are to secure a better deal. Forward this email to a colleague if you believe they have not yet joined: https://www.asu.asn.au/asujoin
