Yesterday your ASU representatives attended a Staff Consultative Committee meeting in which management confirmed that changes to ADOs have been put on hold until they have received further advice. If you have ADOs currently accrued, they will remain, you can take them. If any manager tries to tell you something different, contact your local delegate or ASU Organiser immediately.

Member Meeting Reminder

We need to keep our members safe, and that means that Organisers have to limit physical visits to worksites to stop the spread of Covid-19. This is why we are running a virtual members meeting on Wednesday via Zoom, which members can join from a computer or phone.

DATE: Wednesday 15 July
TIME: 1.00pm

New restrictions and safety precautions

Metropolitan Melbourne is now in Stage 3 lockdown, and the State Government has advised wearing face masks if social distancing is not possible. We’re increasingly hearing concerns from workers in the South Building of unsafe work practices like sharing equipment, lack of social distancing, and masks not being provided. We’re working with your HSRs to keep you safe during this time, by pushing management to implement better OHS procedures.

Consultation during Covid-19

Maribyrnong Council has been one of the worst Councils in Victoria when it comes to working with their staff on managing Covid-19. At the start of the pandemic, Council sacked almost 150 staff from the Aquatic Centre and Libraries, these sackings were unnecessary and wouldn’t have happened if Maribyrnong had been consulting regularly with your representatives. All those staff have now been re-offered their jobs, your representatives have ensured that their prior service will be recognised for the purposes of leave, and today, we secured fortnightly consultation meetings with Maribyrnong management.

This means that your union delegates will finally be given a genuine say in how the Council manages Covid-19, and we can ensure that major blunders like those staff sackings don’t occur again.

Don’t forget the ASU recruitment competition is underway until September, $500 is up for grabs for the member who recruits the most new people.
