Maribyrnong and Hobson’s Bay have recently put their Home and Community Care services out to tender. This is despite the fact funding is available until June 2020 and that the majority of Councils are opting to maintain their role in the delivery of aged care.
Concerned ASU members took to a recent Maribyrnong Council meeting to raise their concerns with councillors regarding the impacts of their decision to outsource. It was a great turn out with over 20 members packing out the small public gallery to let council know that they are not happy with the decision. A decision that will see close to 200 employees potentially transmitted to another organisation, with uncertainty regarding wages and conditions post the expiration of the EBA.
The ASU is currently collecting signatures for petitions calling on council to overturn their decision to tender out Home and community care. The employer has recently directed employees to stop participating in this action, this won’t however stop the ASU and delegates from other councils banding together to get the numbers! Taking it to the street to save Maribyrnong and Hobson’s bay Home and Community Care
Sunday 7th October 10-1
Maribyrnong and Hobson Bay Councils have together decided to outsource their Home and Community Care work. Home care and support services deliver much needed in home assistance to our communities’ elderly, providing residents with the capacity to maintain their dignity and independence at home. Local Councils have funding till June, 2020 to continue to provide these services however Maribyrnong and Hobson Bay have elected to proceed to outsource these vital services.
We must act now! RSVP to attend the door knock on 7 October at 10am-1pm
Please RSVP to email@example.com or contact her on 0400-986-745
We need to send a clear message to council that outsourcing these services is premature, continuity of care for residents is dependent on job security for employees and need to be central to the decision making process.
The tender process closes on 9 October and the next council meeting following this will be on 23rd October at 6.30pm. We want to be able to present a healthy number of petitions at this meeting- which will call on councils to overturn their decision to outsource.
We need your help to collect signatures from residence.
Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org or contact her on 0400-986-745 if you have any questions.
