At the recent round of ASU members meetings, a revised position on your pay increase and critical claims was endorsed. Now we need your feedback on next steps via a quick survey!

The revised ASU pay position was presented to council on 2 March:

  • 2% or $25 per week, whichever is greater, effective July 2020
  • 1.5% or $20 per week, whichever is greater, effective July 2021
  • 1.75% or $23 per week, whichever is greater, effective July 2022

Manningham said they were pleasantly surprised at this.

We also presented the remaining priority items for members: Transfer of Business, Tea Breaks (Indoor/Customer Service), Disciplinary Procedure and better Phone Allowance for Home Support Workers.

Manningham’s response came through last week.

On the upside:  an increased Phone Allowance for Home Support Workers (to $7.50/week) and adding the wording we requested to the Disciplinary Procedure.

On the downside: no change to Transfer of Business or Tea Breaks.

Manningham’s pay offer:

  • 1.5% or $18 per week, whichever is greater, effective July 2020
  • 1.6% or $19 per week, whichever is greater, effective July 2021
  • 1.75% or $21 per week, whichever is greater, effective July 2022

Council has cited their financial position as the reason for this shift.

At the February council meeting the financial report stated Manningham is in good financial shape, with the CEO advising no need to adjust the budget. Additional comments included having “room to move if we want to step up capital works spending…we have a very strong balance sheet” and “we’ve been very resilient”. The reduction reported in budget was a $3mn reduction in surplus from $12.63mn to $9.58mn – with losses attributed to $2mn in COVID relief, $1.33mn reduction on fees and charges and loss from Aquarena. Additional (unexpected) grants were noted, as was the $65mn Manningham has in the bank.
