The impending COVID-19 pandemic is unprecedented in our lifetime. We will all need to make adjustments to the way that we live and work over the next few months to keep our communities as safe as we can.
The ASU will be meeting shortly with Local Government Victoria and the Municipal Association of Victoria to discuss how we can work together at this time to ensure safe working conditions for ASU members.
We are aware that Councils are making decisions quickly which will impact significantly on our members, for example, we are hearing a number of councils are temporarily closing services or restricting public access to some buildings.
We have written to all Local Government CEO’s regarding their obligations to consult with ASU Delegates and Health & Safety Representatives about changes that may need to be made.
We have also requested that councils consider allowing staff to work from home where possible, grant emergency paid leave in addition to enterprise agreement entitlements and consider flexibility regarding the need to provide medical certificates given the increased demand on our medical system.
The union movement is calling on the Morrison government to guarantee 2 weeks paid special leave for all workers. Sign the petition here to show your support.
If you require support or advice about changes that are being proposed or made please speak to your workplace delegate in the first instance.
The ASU is here to support you in your workplace. Our Member Contact Centre cannot provide health advice, but the Industrial Support Officers in the contact centre can provide advice and assistance about your workplace entitlements.
If required, you can contact the ASU Member Contact Centre | 1300 855 570 | firstname.lastname@example.org
Please forward this email to a non-member. It’s easy for anyone who is not yet a member of the ASU to join online at www.asu.asn.au/asujoin
