ASU Regional Library Corporation delegates from across Victoria recently meet to share their workplace wins and strategies prior to the broader library liaison network meeting.

Our delegates are doing great work in their workplaces to increase the profile of the union and recruit new members.

At Geelong Regional Library Corporation delegates have recently recruited twenty new members. This is huge growth outside of a major organising campaign, bargaining, or a major dispute.

They have also

  • forced management to install sharps disposal bins in toilets at the central library
  • forced the fixing of a mould problem at the central library
  • won more easily accessible staff-only lockers after a theft incident
  • had the hours a security guard is present at the central library extended after 40 people signed a petition.

Eastern Regional Libraries member’s efforts organising ASU OH&S training at their premises has paid off.

The course provided valuable information about the OH&S Act in reference to our industry.

The result is a happy team of well-informed staff.  After the course, they quickly updated their materials safety data sheets, introduced a comprehensive hazard register and are more comfortable referring to the OH&S Act.  They now have a schedule of OH&S meetings to make sure they are all working in a safe and friendly environment.

At both these library corporations, we have recruited new delegates and are working to encourage casuals to join the ASU.

Everyone present was keen to discuss their future claims, recruitment strategies and staffing levels.

And as an indication of the value of the meeting, delegates agreed to meet in late January.

Library Liaison Meetings
Library Liaison meetings are held quarterly throughout the year and provide members with the opportunity to compare notes on working conditions and industry trends.

Join union representatives from your industry at the ASU in 2020 to get ahead of the game and deliver better outcomes for your workplace.
