As you would be aware the ASU met with representatives from City of Launceston and the Launceston Aquatic Centre on Friday 14 December to discuss the bargaining process for the 2019 Launceston Aquatic Centre Enterprise Agreement.
Bargaining will formally commence on Monday 21 January 2019.
Here are some important things that you should know
The ASU is the Union for Local Government in Tasmania. We are the experts in Local Government EA Negotiations and that includes Local Government Aquatic Centres.
Members of the ASU will be actively represented during bargaining for a new enterprise agreement and other employees are encouraged to join the ASU by heading to https://www.asu.asn.au/asujoin
Your annual pay increase is due in December 2018 but has not been implemented due to the delay in the commencement of bargaining.
The ASU has requested that all LAC employees receive a pay increase in accordance with the current agreement (2%) immediately and any increase achieved through bargaining in excess of 2% is applied as back pay at the conclusion of bargaining.
Disappointingly Council have refused our request. This means that due to Council delaying the commencement of EA negotiations you will not receive your annual pay increase until negotiations are finalised, furthermore there is no guarantee that you will receive back pay.
The main City of Launceston EA has a number of conditions of employment that are more beneficial than conditions contained in the LAC EA.
In bargaining the ASU will be focusing on ensuring that LAC EA is updated to make sure that LAC employees have the same beneficial conditions of employment as the rest of Council.
